Exciting developments for businesses large and small! Microsoft has made a significant change – the requirement to purchase a minimum number of licenses for Microsoft Copilot for M365 has been removed. Whether your business needs a single license or several hundred, Microsoft Copilot is ready to accommodate your requirements.
What's the Latest with Microsoft 365 Copilot?
The previous threshold of 300 licenses has been abolished. Microsoft now offers Copilot in two distinct versions:
Copilot Pro tailored for individual use.
Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 (M365), which is particularly noteworthy.

Why am I highlighting a non Microsoft Security Specific Item?
The purpose of this blog post is to highlight availability, features, news and experience. However on of the main points is to highlight the release of Microsoft M365 Copilot being a big step, for business and opening another vector of consideration when looking at Privacy, Security and Compliance / GRC. Everything that governs the use of a new tool in this new and scary age of AI!
Before an executive sponsor may sign off approval to use M365 Co-pilot, the above may form part of a business case for budget or CAB approval! The other Microsoft Security tools such as Security Co-pilot & Microsoft Purview will need to be considered, as they may be preferred tools for the use cases / issues / governance items raised and required for sign off! (Blog post on this soon!)

Requirements for Microsoft 365 Copilot
To utilise Microsoft 365 Copilot, ensure you have one of the following:
An Office 365 E3 or E5 plan.
Microsoft 365 Business Standard.
Microsoft 365 Business Premium license.
With one of these plans, you're set to add Microsoft Copilot to your M365 tenant.
Initiating Microsoft 365 Copilot
Setting up Copilot is a breeze. It's available for purchase through the M365 Admin Centre or via a Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider. Once activated, Copilot integrates with Microsoft Teams for chat, message crafting, and provides intelligent meeting recaps. It’s also at your service in Office client applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and even in Outlook mobile.
Enhancing Microsoft 365 Copilot
Take full advantage of Microsoft 365's extensibility with Graph connectors and Copilot plugins, allowing for customisation to suit your business's specific requirements.
Activation Procedure
To enable Copilot for your organisation:
Visit the M365 Admin Centre.
Go to 'Billing' and then 'Purchase Services'.
Choose the Copilot option and agree to the terms.
Set up a new billing account by verifying your identity.
Select the number of licenses you need and your payment preference.
Finalise your purchase and allocate licenses to your team members.
Following your purchase, Microsoft sends a confirmation email with the details, and you can manage and allocate your new Copilot licenses through the Admin Centre.

“Copilot for Microsoft 365. What to expect in the first 24 hours.....
Microsoft has released Copilot for Microsoft 365 for the masses, and organisations are now allowed to buy a handful of licenses instead of investing £100k to buy 300 licenses for a year. From the reel videos and demos, we have all seen what Copilot for Microsoft 365 can do, but what is the experience for a user in the first 24 hours?
- Welcome email from Microsoft informing users they have been assigned a Copilot for Microsoft 365 license.
- Once Microsoft has drummed up that excitement with a user, there is little that a user can do immediately.
- After half an hour or so, users will start to see features within Office Online will start to unlock with the Copilot button becoming available.
- A little while later, after a restart of Microsoft 365 Apps, the Copilot button will appear across Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Teams. I have found that Copilot takes a little longer in Outlook.
Remember, Semantic Indexing will take a while across the organisation; do not expect amazing results when Copilot is available. Instead, play with your current documents in your OneDrive and see how to transform Word documents into PowerPoint presentations.”
